Before & After: A Solar Story

A Solar Story

The first step in any Green Earth Energy project is the preliminary design. When a client reaches out to us for a quote, our specialized systems engineers take a look at your property, analyse your energy usage, and design a custom plan to fit your needs. Our goal is to help you achieve a net zero energy bill, or the closest we can to it. In this post we're taking a before and after approach to give you a glimpse of Green Earth Energy's process.

A Glimpse into our process

Let's take a birds-eye view of one of our more recent solar installations. The project design for this paradise valley home called for 74 solar modules. That's a lot of sun-power!

What do inverters and the battery system do?

In order to take full advantage of the renewable energy generated by all those modules we installed 4 PV inverters, a battery inverter and a storage system, but what exactly do all those inverters and the batter system do?

An inverter changes direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). You can think of the PV inverter as a translator between the solar modules and the house. The battery inverter works much the same way. When modules are producing an excess of sun-power, the battery inverter is able to tell the system when to store that energy in the battery. When more energy is needed throughout the house, like after sunset, the battery inverter can get that battery to cough up some of that storage to help power your house.

The beauty of this system is that whether you're tied to the grid, or looking to go off-grid entirely, a grid-tied battery backup system can help offset your energy bill, especially during peak hours for energy usage.

What does it all mean for your energy bill?

Before solar, this Paradise Valley homeowner spent over $10,000 in APS bills annually. Now? Their energy bill is net zero.

6 Reasons to Go Solar in Arizona
26 Jul, 2018
APS recently raised rates on all customers to cover rising costs. There are many factors that can contribute to rising energy prices, like maintaining an aging grid, building new power facilities to supply meet growing demand, and the impact of natural disasters, to name a few.
Why a system that covers 33% of your power needs can cover 66% of your bill.

New National Air Standards and the Future of Solar
17 Jun, 2014
New carbon standards proposed on June 2, 2014 have the potential to impact the solar industry here in Arizona. States will be given the latitude to create their own plans for acheiving a 30% reduction in carbon emissions over 2005 levels by 2030.
Tile Mounted Solar Installations

Homeowners with tile roofing can still enjoy the benefits of renewable energy while also preserving their roof. This photo, taken from elevation, gives you a bird's eye view of one Sedona tile installation.
A Typical Roof Mounted Installation
15 Jan, 2014
We wanted to share a photo of this pv system as it is representative of our most typical solar install. At 7.28 kW, this system size is our most popular. Systems in this size range will cover 100% of a typical home's energy costs.
Low Profile Installations
23 Nov, 2013
This Sedona client wanted the lowest profile possible on their solar installation. Typically, panels are mounted at about 12-15 degrees tilt to maximize the solar radiation they receive.
The Benefits of Residential Ground Mount

If you find yourself with some extra space on the south side of your property (or southeast or southwest), you may want to consider a ground-mounted solar system.
